Gender Representation in English Textbook: A Visual Grammar Analyis

چکیده

This study was qualitative descriptive, which investigated what kind of gender features emerged for the male and female represented in image textbook elementary school. The data this were collected from an English entitled “Stairway a fun easy (for Grade IV Elementary Schools”, published by Tiga Serangkai. present form images texts taken textbook. analysed following theory visual grammar (Kress van Leeuwen, 2006) to analyse text. found that there are unequitable representations typically because both genders through stereotypical portrayals. Males dominate language strategies occupy more public areas, while females be passive private areas. portrayal asymmetrical representation shows reflection is realized ideology inspired interest society.
